‘Oooh,look, a Blibbering Humdinger’

It’s Day 7 of the Harry Potter 30 Day challenge and the question for today is: Who is your favourite female character and why?
Tough question, very tough. The Harry Potter series has some great female characters-Hermione, Ginny, Luna, McGonagall, Tonks, Mrs. Weasley. I don’t know who my favourite is. There is something I liked in each of them.
But I think I’ll go with Luna because she is such a different and interesting character.

She had straggly, waist-length, dirty blonde hair, very pale eyebrows and protuberant eyes that gave her a permanently surprised look….The girl gave off an aura of distinct dottiness. Perhaps it was the fact that she had stuck her wand behind her left ear for safekeeping, or that she had chosen to wear a necklace of Butterbeer corks, or that she was reading a magazine upside-down.

None of the other characters show the quirkiness and creativity that Luna does.
The most important thing we learn from Luna is that we need to be comfortable with who we are and accept ourselves first. Everyone else will follow. She has all the traits that the other characters share-she’s intelligent, brave, loyal, honest-but she still manages to stand out because she doesn’t let go of herself in the grand scheme of things.
She seems to live in her own world but she is someone who is always aware of her surroundings. I also like the fact that she is so honest. She has no qualms about saying exactly what she feels. There aren’t many people as honest as she is.

I wish I could be like that too!

There is something to learn from every one of JKR’s characters in the Harry Potter series. So even though I have chosen to write about Luna, there is so much that the other characters-both male and female-have taught me. But that’s an answer for another day! For today I choose Luna Lovegood 🙂
Until the next post (that’s tomorrow)!
